JSIS COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT 2014
Monday, Dec 1-Thursday, Dec 11, 2014

This year's Annual JSIS Community Action Project benefits Sister Schools--a Seattle-based non-profit dedicated to providing school supplies, first aid, and clothing to schools and orphanages in Uganda. From Dec 1 to Dec 11, JSIS students and families are invited to collect supplies and drop them off in the bins in the main office.

Please see this flier to learn more about our project and how you can participate.
Questions? Contact Ms. Kathleen.

Find out more information here.

On November 12th, your child will come home with a copy of the first Wally newspaper of this school year. Wally is a totally kid-run paper. There are lots of ways to get involved:

  1. ANYONE can write an article--the next deadline is December 1.
  2. There are 2 contests: a four-square court design contest and a Scavenger Hunt for Henry's Murals.
  3. There are also five new editor positions! There is School News, EPIK (Extraordinary Projects involving Kids), Reviews (books and movies,) Comics and, Communications (sending emails and e-news).
  4. There is a new section in the paper called Miss-Know-It-All, where the kids can write and send problems they have at school or at home to Miss-Know-It-All.

Have fun reading and be a part of Wally!

PTSA meeting material

Couldn't Make the PTSA Meeting?

In addition to a presentation from members of the Green Team and a discussion of sustainability projects at the school, you also missed informative overviews by Principal Dedy and by Dr. Michele Aoki, International Education Administrator for SPS. If you would like to learn more about JSIS data & assessments, and the vision for immersion in SPS, take a moment to read their presentations (see below). Q&A was lively, especially regarding immersion continuation at Hamilton, and Dr. Aoki graciously offered to return for a future meeting for more discussion.

Immersion Scholarships

The JSIS PTSA has created an Immersion Trip Scholarship Fund in order to support families who may not otherwise be able to afford to go on the Mexico and Japan trips.

Scholarship applications are available here, or at the front desk. All applications include a student statement and a teacher recommendation and are due on Monday, December 1, 2013 by 3:40 pm. Please submit forms in the Scholarship Forms box in the main office (above the teacher mailboxes). Any questions can be directed to Yayoi.

Spring Trip to Mexico

Preparations are underway for the annual trip to visit our sister school, Juan de la Barrera in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.   The trip is planned for Spring Break April 13-17, 2015 and is open to all JSIS students and their families.  (Please make sure you have the right dates, as a previous announcement did not have the updated information.)  Click HERE for scholarship application.

Trip registration will open on November 10th!  Maestra Priscilla will be in room 404 to accept registration fee from 8:00 am to 9:00 each morning until registration is full.
